On The Subject Of SportsGrowing up in Hogtown, my Dad used to take Mike and I to The Gardens on Sundays to watch the Marlies or Saint Mikes play hockey. Our little black 'n white television was always pointed to Hockey Night In Canada, and we played hockey from the time we got out of diapers. Mike was a better skater than me, but I thrived on skating backwards and slamming any unsuspecting puck handler into the boards ala Bobby Baun. (no wonder I became a jail guard, you say)I even had my sixty minutes of fame playing in Maple Leaf Gardens in houseleague finals scoring three, count that, three goals. Shocked the hell out of me - I musta watched a scarey movie on tv the night before. Many years have gone by and I'm all grown up and now I wouldn't give you a thank you for free tickets to watch any NHL game. But on to the blog entry: How 'bout those Maple Leafs?The Shovel talks about hockey, rule changes, and collective bargaining. |
