Windows 9x and NT systems allow a convenient storage of frequently used passwords, such as the password of your dial-in ISP or FTP connection. However, since you no longer enter the saved password manually, you tend to forget them. What are you to do when you need to know one of the saved passwords? The password is staring right at you, but is hiding behind a row of "*****" asterisks. This nifty utility allows you to reclaim your password:

Activate the utility, drag the 123 mouse cursor on the password field and your password is revealed instantly in the display of 123.

Limitations: This utility works well with most password screens you will encounter on a MS Windows system, such as the password fields on the ISP dial-up dialog, within CuteFTP or Outlook Express. However, it does not work with applications that do not actually store the password "behind" the asterisks e. g. the Windows NT User Manager.

The standard password recovery works on Win 95, 98, ME and Windows NT, but not Windows 2000. The WEB password recovery is designed for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 (or better) and works on all ndows platforms, including Win 2000.

1. Click with your LEFT mouse button on the "KEY" ICON -> 
2. Your mouse cursor is changed to a "KEY" cursor -> 
3. Now, KEEP THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON PRESSED DOWN and move the mouse to the window that contains the password field ("*****") you want to read

Overview 
========

Backup4all is a powerful backup utility. Backup4all provides an intuitive interface to help you define customized backup configurations. Use it to protect your valuable data from total or partial loss.

Using the wizard, setting up a backup configuration is easy. It allows you to setup powerful file filters and schedulers. You can set up multiple backups and schedule them any way you like. Once a backup is performed, you can see what files have been changed since last backup using the tree view mode or you can read the statistics for next backup execution. You can use context menu from the tree mode to launch any custom action associated with the file type.

Backup4all uses ZIP compression. You can set the compression level to speed up the backup process or to minimize the archive size.

Backup4all performs incremental backup to keep track of file versions. You can easily restore any version of files. You can filter files to restore. Restores can also be done via any standard zip software, giving you more flexibility if you need to restore on a different computer.

Backup4all works with any drive letter, including mapped network drives and UNC paths. You can back up to inexpensive CDR/CDRW media, if the appropriate drivers have already been installed.

Backup4all is compatible with Windows 95/98/Me or Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP and requires approximately 4MB of free disk space.

Q: How can I create a new backup configuration? 
A: Backups are created by the backup wizard that can be started from menu or from toolbar. Just follow the steps of the wizard and click "Finish" when ready.

Q: How can I create a new backup configuration similar with another? 
A: Select the similar backup in the outlook bar and then click on "Create like" toolbar button. Then you can edit the new backup configuration.

Q: How can I see the number of files that will be processed at next backup? 
A: Click on the toolbar button that reads "Statistics" and then press CTRL + F5. It will show the file counts.

Q: How can I filter files to see only new and modified files? 
A: Click on the toolbar button that reads "Explore". Then push "Show new files" and "Show modified files" buttons on top and release the other three buttons.

Q: How can I set the compression level to be used? 
A: Open backup properties and go to "Advanced" tab. Here you can choose from four compression levels: none, low, medium, high.

Q: How can I exclude a folder that is a subfolder of a source folder? 
A: Open backup properties, go to the "Sources" tab and uncheck the subfolder you want to exclude.

Q: How can I change the backup type to full backup? 
A: Open backup properties and go to the "Advanced" tab. Check "Full Backup" option.

Q: How can I restore a version of one file? 
A: Look in the tree of the main form. Locate and select the file in tree. You will see its versions in the list below. R-click on a version and restore it.

Q: How can I filter the files to restore? 
A: Click on "Restore" toolbar button. Press "Next" button on the first restore wizard page and then set the filter you want.

Q: Why do some files and directories in the tree have red text? 
A: The folders and files with red text have a different file filter than the general file filter of the backup configuration. To override the file filter, open backup Properties, go to File Filter tab (ALT+F), switch to Customize. Here, select the folder for which you need a different file filter and click "Override". "Remove override" button will delete the customized file filter.

Q: How can I backup on CD media? 
A: You can backup directly on CD only if the CD is formatted in UDF format. This can be done using DirectCD from Roxio or InCD from Ahead Software. The limitation is that you must have an UDF reader (DirectCD or InCD) installed on each computer you wish to use the CD.

Another approach would be to backup on local or network drives and then copies the resulting files to CD using your preferred CD burning software.

Q: How can I backup on DVD and tape drives? 
A: The current version does not support DVD and tape drives.

Q: Can I split the backup on more disks? 
A: The current version does not support multiple disk spanning. This feature will be available in the next major release.

Q: Somehow I lost by backup item configuration. I only have the .bkc file. Can I restore the backup item? 
A: Yes. Just dbl-click on the .bkc file and a new backup item configuration will be created based on .bkc file.

Q: I want to backup over 15 GBytes, but the backup process stops after some time. Is this a limitation? 
A: Yes. This is a known issue of the ZIP compression used by Backup4all. Zip file size is limited to 2 GBytes. That's the reason why the backup process stops.

What is this?

Well as a computer is supposed to be a helpful tool I always wanted to organize some of my mess on the computer. But I really disliked that if I wanted a phonebook, an appointment manager, a calendar and a notepad. I would have to install these 5-20mb programs which for once costs a fortune, second they're usually slow to startup and takes too long to learn, and have like hundred of buttons/options you never really use.

So I decided to code my own little simple application which ended up like this. I also added the option to customize your own color for the application so it won't be so dull to look at.

Try it out, you might like it and you might not, anyway it's freeware as long as you don't use it in any kind of commercial/business like way.

Chaos Manager key features.

+ Appointment manager, plays a random wav-file when appointment has reached it's deadline.

Features in detail:

Appointments - Up to 500 appointments, will pop up with a sound when an appointment has reached/passed it's deadline (date and time). The played sound is a random .wav file from the directory where Chaos Manager is located. When the appointment has pop up you can choose between the following options:

Delete appointment. 
Change appointment deadline. 
Mark appointment as read but don't delete. 
Add a week to appointment deadline. 
Add a day to appointment deadline.

Notepad - Just a little notepad to type in stuff. It supports multiple topics, to allow the notepad to be more organized.

Phonebook - This is more then just a phonebook, it can also contain the persons address and fax/mobile number, balance (if he/she/it owes you money)email address, and 5 lines of other comments. The phonebook is sorted after Name from A-Z. It is possible to add,view,edit,delete entries.

Calendar - Where you can get an overview of which days you have appointments etc.

Standby mode - By pressing standby the program will run in the background and can be found in the system tray (in the lower right corner where the clock also is). When an appointment deadline has been reached it will popup. Appointments will also popup if the program is not in standby mode (unless you enable the option to only popup when in standby mode).

When the program is put in the system-tray you can left-click it's icon (in the system-tray) to restore the program to it's normal state, or right-click it for a popup-menu.

Data encryption - All text in the datafiles (appointments, phone entries, notepad, password etc.) are encrypted with multiple keys, so it's impossible to get any information by looking into the datafiles. You might feel a slowdown when opening and closing the program due to the encrypting, but if you got a pentium 75 or higher it probably won't bother you, if so it's possible to disable encryption in setup.

Setup - In setup it is possible to enable/disable a password. If enabled you will be asked for a password at the programs startup, you'll have to type the right password to enter the program, so don't forget the password if you choose to use one.

It's also possible to change the programs color/skin in setup, there's a set to default color button if something goes wrong. :) These are just some of the options.

Backup - Chaos Manager makes backup of all the datafiles every monday.

Skinable - Choose among a number of skins or create your own.

CyberKit is a collection of network tools. In this document, I'll refer to these tools as `clients'. Each client is described in detail in its own section in this help file.

the ping client

The clients is what CyberKit is all about. There are numerous ways to start a client. Here are some of the most common: 
- Through the `New' menu item on the tray menu. 
- Through the `Window' menu from a client that is already open. There you can choose between `Transform to' which will transform the current client window into another client window, or `New' which will open a complete new client window. 
- Using the shortcut keys (only available when another client window is the active window). For example: CTRL+1 will transform the current window into a ping client, CTRL+SHIFT+1 will open a new ping window. 
- Using the context menu (for more information see below). Besides the normal clients like ping and nslookup, there are a 2 special clients namely the window list and the scheduler. The window list is used to keep track of open client windows. From there you can open or close other client windows. The scheduler can be used to run other client windows on regular time intervals. You can use the scheduler to synchronize your PC clock with a time server on the Internet or to check your POP3 server for new mail.

The context menu

The context menu is used by most of the clients and, along other things, provides you with a way to quickly exchange date between clients.

You can get to the context menu in several ways: right click on the host, server or query field in any of the clients, select some text in any of the clients and right click on it, right click on a hostname or TCP/IP address in ping or traceroute, etc.

Once the context menu is open you can use it to: 
- transform the current client to another client and copy the selected data directly into the host, server or query field of the new client. 
- open a new client window (press the `SHIFT' key will selecting the menu item) and copy the selected data directly into the host, server or query field of the new client. 
- open a browse file dialog to browse to a file that you want to use as input in the current client. 
- select a hostname or TCP/IP address from the history list to use in the current client. 
- use the standard copy and paste features of windows

Unlike typical backup programs that copy files, DrvImagerXP makes backups (image files) of NTFS and FAT32 drive partition structures (as well as floppy disks), for the Windows 2000/XP operating systems, by copying, byte-for-byte, the drive partition sectors. And when not using file compression, can do this very quickly, much faster than copying files.

You'll never have to install your operating system again! You can install it, make all your option changes and get it just right, then use DrvImagerXP to create a partition image that you could name "Fresh Install". If you need to go back to a brand new fresh installation of your operating system, you can restore the partition using the "Fresh Install" image in just a few minutes.

Unlike typical backup programs that copy files, DrvImagerXP makes backups (image files) of NTFS and FAT32 drive partition structures (as well as floppy disks), for the Windows2000/XP operating systems, by copying, byte-for-byte, and very quickly, the drive partition sectors. The backup image file is an exact reproduction of the entire drive partition.

DrvImagerXP takes a snapshot of your drive partition, saving every aspect of that partition, so later if you want your partition exactly like it was the moment you took that snapshot, you can restore it back to that point in time in minutes, much faster than with file backups.

"If you are worried that someone might have access to your documents, emails, sales projections, contracts, tax returns or receipts, romantic letters, or any other private files, then this product is for you.

Don't rely on the simple password protection mechanisms of popular Office packages, or compression utilities, they can be broken or by-passed easily.

Get your self state-of-the art encryption, for this task you need either this product, or something like PGP. PGP is great for encrypting email's, but when it comes down to it, for file encryption it's cumbersome, each time you need to use a file you must decrypt it, update or print it, then encrypt the file again, remembering to wipe the original.

In addition how do you name your files? Do you use descriptive files such as bank-statements.zip.pgp, xyz-corp-contract.doc.pgp, or whatever, these descriptive filenames give others information you would rather they not know. Did you know that a certain Office package keeps a record of the last X files accessed in the registry even if you turn this feature off in it's user interface?

E4M solves many of these problems. It's fast, seamless, integrated, legal, free, 128-bit encryption regardless of who you are and where you live.

E4M is an on-the-fly disk encryption product. What this means is create a volume on your hard disk, CDROM, floppy or other media which is essentially just a normal file. The file however is in fact a file system itself. It contains all the structures needed by your operating system to recognise the file as a file system of a particular type such as FAT or NTFS. This is called a "file hosted volume".

Or you could choose a blank or unwanted partition on a local hard disk or floppy disks and format it using E4M. You can then mount this new encrypted volume, and use it like you would any other drive. This is called a "Raw partition volume".

The only difference is that Raw partition volumes do not have a file system in the middle, so they provide an encrypted file system on top of a Raw partition. As opposed to file hosted volumes which need an existing file system to "host" the volume file. An example would be a E4M volume called "myfiles.vol" located on the C drive, rather than the same volume located on the second partition of your hard disk.

To your operating system, these new volumes will work exactly like your C drive, or any other drive on your system.

Tools are provided to "mount" a volume, and to create a volume. The process of mounting a volume involves pretending that the volume file or partition is in fact a removable media device attached to your system.

You probably want the free version of Gravity (Version 2.5) or the latest "Super" Gravity (Version 2.6).

grav25.exe - Gravity Version 2.5. The latest FREE OFFICIAL release from MicroPlanet. This file is complete and includes an installer. Simply download and install.

super2039.zip - Super Gravity (unofficial version 2.6). The build number is included in the file name. As of build 2034 and higher, Super Gravity decodes yEnc binaries. The executable in the zip is NOT an installer. It is just the program file that replaces v2.5 .exe.

grav23.exe - Gravity Version 2.3 is identical to Version 2.5, except the registration stuff has not been disabled. It is included here only because of potential installation problems with Version 2.5.

INSTALL PROBLEMS

For some people the Version 2.5 installation hangs at the splash screen. The solution that works most of the time is to download version 2.3, install it and then install Version 2.5 over it. Do not uninstall 2.3 before installing 2.5.

To install Super Gravity you MUST have the complete Version 2.3 or 2.5 installed on your system. (preferrably v2.5)

THE EXECUTABLE FILE IN THE ZIP FILE IS NOT AN INSTALL PROGRAM.

There is no installation necessary. Simply extract the file named "gravity.exe" and replace the existing file by that name in the Gravity program directory. I suggest that you save the old file in case you need it.

You can even leave both Gravity versions in the directory and make shortcuts to each. Of course they need different names.

Some firewalls (like ZoneAlarm) will complain after switching the files. Just ignore it.

How 3D Works

The term 3D means three-dimensional. The three dimensions are width, height and depth. In other words, the difference between a 3D image and a normal 2D image is only one - depth.

We perceive depth because we have two eyes. Each eye sees a separate image. You can verify this for yourself by trying this simple experiment:

Experiment:

Close one eye.

With the open eye, line up your finger with an object somewhere in the room.

Without moving your finger, close the one eye and open the other.

Observe how your finger lines up with the object.

The reason for the difference is that our eyes are separated by a distance of about 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 inches (60 to 70 mm). Each eye sees the same scenery, but from a slightly different perspective. The brain decodes the differences and we perceive the result as depth and distance.

This is the basic principle behind stereoscopic 3D images. The are two pictures. One is meant to be seen by the left eye. The other is meant to be seen by the right eye. In other words, each 3D image consists of 2 separate pictures, a left-eye picture and a right-eye picture.

In Images 3D this is a very important fact. In order to produce your own 3D images, you need to take two pictures - one for each eye.

Stereoscopic 3D and Conventional 3D

Stereoscopic 3D is not the same as conventional 3D. Conventional 3D is the kind referred to when talking about 3D rendering, 3D accelerators and so on. Conventional 3D means the ability to rotate an object in space and view it from all angles.

Tools You Need

To use Images 3D to produce your own 3D images, you need the following tools, in addition to the software and a Windows 95/98/ME computer.

A digital camera

or alternatively

A conventional film camera plus a scanner

For each 3D image you need to take 2 separate pictures. Once you have the two pictures of a scene, Images 3D allows you to adjust the relative alignments to produce the best 3D image possible.

While it helps if your digital camera or scanner has the ability to save to the hard disk directly, it's not essential. Images 3D allows you to acquire pictures from TWAIN compliant devices. The vast majority of digital cameras and scanners are TWAIN compliant. If you're in doubt, check with the manufacturer to find out for sure.

Manual Drawings

At some point, you may decide that you want to try your hand at drawing your own 3D images. The same principles that apply to digital photographs apply to hand drawn images. For each hand drawn 3D image that you want to produce you need to draw 2 separate pictures - one for each eye. Use your favorite drawing tool to do so, and save the pictures in BMP, JPG, or PNG format.

If you tried the experiment of lining up an object with your finger, you will have observed something very important. The left-right shift between objects close to you is greater than the left-right shift between objects in the distance. This fact becomes critical in manual drawing.

Another important factor is that while there's a left-right shift there is no up-down shift. If your drawing program allows you to work with pixel coordinates, any objects you draw on both pictures should be at the same Y coordinate.

You also have to pay close attention to ensure that the left-eye picture actually shows what the left eye would see. Same goes for the right picture. In other words, just because an object is drawn in two different places on the two different pictures, it doesn't mean that it will automatically be able to produce a 3D image. When in doubt about placement, repeat the experiment . It will give you a better idea of how to position objects in the two pictures. It may take some practice, but with a little effort, drawing manual 3D images can actually become quite easy, especially when your drawing program allows you to copy and paste selections between two different pictures.

File Types Supported

Images 3D supports the most common royalty-free image file types. Specifically, Images 3D supports Windows bitmaps, JPG files and PNG files, all of which can be used freely without having to pay royalties. The most notable exceptions are GIF and TIFF files, both of which are not supported. The reason for lack of support is that there is some legal debate as to whether it's lawful to use these types of files without paying royalties. The compression algorithms that produce GIF and TIFF files are patented, and Unisys, the patent holder, states in rather ambiguous language, that simply because you have software that can produce such files, it does not mean that you can freely use them, even if the software vendor did pay the royalties. The license does not extend to the end user without written permission from Unisys. To avoid getting you into any legal complications, we have omitted support for all types except those that are clearly acceptable.

The files created by 16-bit version and those created by 32-bit version are in different formats. 
32-bit KyPlot version 2 supports 32-bit version 1 files, but does not support 16-bit files.

Open "Preferences" window by clicking "File/Preferences" menu. Click "Save" button to save the settings you changed as defaults.

When you want to cancel all the customized settings,delete the "kyplot.ini" file in Windows directory.

The following is some of the useful settings for figuresheets.

1. "Screen" tab
a. Scaling Factor: the default setting (100%) is for 17-inch monitors.
b. Autoredraw mode: When "Autoredraw"="True", the bitmap image of each figuresheet is stored in memory, which enables smooth redrawing of the figuresheet. Since it consumes much memory, you may select "False" (default), if your computer does not have enough memory.

2. "Printer" tab 
Font Offset: this setting is primarily for HP LaserJet printers.
When printing with an HP LaserJet printer, you may notice a slight upward offset of printed texts relative to other drawings (for example, offset of Y axis labels relative to axis ticks in graphs), which may depend on the setting of printer options(for example, when "Download True Type fonts as outline soft fonts" is selected). In such a case try to set "Vertical" ="19" for "Font Offset".

3. "Objects" tab 
Bitmap Pictures always on top: in this mode bitmaps are always drawn on top, irrespective to their Z order setting. You may check this option, if your printer driver does not support Z order for bitmaps and you want to keep WYSIWYG.

What's this all about?

RUNit is a simple but yet powerful launchpad for Win95/98 and NT(4.0 and above).

RUNit gives you quick access to applications, documents, folders and shortcuts. 
Unlike many other launchpads RUNit doesn't occupy any space on your screen 
- you only see it when you actually use it.

How to use it:

RUNit defines a "hot area" on your screen where a click of the right mouse button 
makes the RUNit launch-menu appear. The "hot area" can be any border of the screen 
or even the whole screen.(you have to hold down the CRTL or SHIFT key while right 
clicking in "whole screen mode")

and best of all... it's FREEWARE!

These two utilities go together. You can use InCtrl or System Mechanic in place of RegShot if you already have one of them.

RegShot is a small registry compare utility that allows you to quickly take a snapshot of your registry and then compare it with a second one - done after doing system changes or installing a new software product. The changes report can be produced in text or HTML format and contains a list of all modifications that have taken place between snapshot1 and snapshot2.In addition, you can also specify folders (with sub filders) to be scanned for changes as well. In version 1.60+ you can save your whole registry in a *.hiv file for future use.

UNDOReg analyzes the report generated by one of these utilities, and deletes referenced registry keys.

Click on "Open Report" and choose a TXT report generated by RegShot, InCtrl 4.1/5, System Mechanic.
